There’s one week remaining in the regular season and three teams in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division have a chance to share a division title.
In the West Catholic Athletic League, the league title comes to a winner-take-all contest between two unbeaten teams with veteran coaches.
High school football doesn’t get much get better than this.
Los Altos remains in the driver’s seat after beating Lynbrook 36-7 on Friday night. The Eagles (7-2, 5-0) clinched at least a title tie with their home win.
Los Altos plays at Cupertino (7-1, 4-1) on Friday night in the regular season finale. A Los Altos victory gives them sole possession of first place. A Cupertino victory means a three-way tie, also with Gunn (7-2, 4-1), which beat Fremont 50-20 on Friday.
Gunn will officially move to 8-2, 5-1 next week since Monta Vista has already forfeited the game due to a lack of players.
Los Altos accumulated 302 total offense yards, led by Greg Schumann with 107 rushing yards and Jimmy Flynn with 142 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns. Lynbrook was held to under 100 yards of offense.
Zach Fagin and Cole Rafferty combined for 125 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Fagin also scored on a run. Min Park scored a rushing touchdown as well.
The Eagles intercepted three passes: Fagan, Drew Rafferty and Lance Kluge. Los Altos also recovered a fumble when the snap hit the helmet of the man in motion and bounced ahead several yards where only blue jerseys were in sight.
Kevin Green rushed for 127 yards and scored three touchdowns in helping Gunn beat Fremont. Filippi Montes rushed for another 97 yards and scored, once on a fumble return.
James Lambert also scored twice.
Ben Velasquez recorded 18 tackles from his safety position, mostly against 310-pound Fremont running back TJ Takafua, who is twice his size. Takafua was limited to 103 rushing yards on 15 carries.
St. Francis 45, Mitty 0
Five different players scored touchdowns in helping the Lancers (8-0, 6-0) remain unbeaten heading into Saturday’s game at Serra (9-0, 6-0) with the winner taking home the league championship.
St. Francis rushed for 239 yards, with Aven Pamintuan leading the way with 72 yards, including a one-yard touchdown run.
Viliami Teu added 57 yards, including a 16-yard scoring run. He returned the second-half kickoff 90 yards for another score.
Kamau Julien rushed for 56 yards, which included a 46-yard touchdown run.
Josh Perry was 8 of 11 for 112 yards and threw for a pair of touchdowns of 13 yards to Tim Netane and seven yards to Dillon Golden.
Andrew Adkinson led all receivers with three catches and 50 yards.
Mitty was limited to 123 total offensive yards, including two on the ground.
Half Moon Bay 47, Sacred Heart Prep 39
Sacred Heart Prep recorded a season-high for points while the host Cougars scored at least 40 points for the third time.
SHP (3-6, 2-3) got off to a good start, recording a safety moments into the contest and adding Carter Shaw’s 68-yard touchdown run on the ensuing free kick. He later went 94 yards on a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Half Moon Bay regained the lead at 12-9, the first of seven lead changes in the contest.
Andrew Latu scored on a 27-yard run, Conrad Wilbur added a six-yard touchdown run, Zach Freire ran in from two yards out, and the Gators blocked a punt out of the end zone for another score for Sacred Heart Prep, which plays at Menlo in the traditional Valpo Bowl next Saturday.
