Charlotte Kohler scored twice and St. Francis beat St. Ignatius 3-1 in the championship game of the girls soccer Firebird Classic at Fremont High on Saturday.

Grace Paulsen also scored for the Lancers (6-0-1), who return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 4 with a West Catholic Athletic League match at home against Mitty.

Kohler, with an assist from Brooklyn O’Brien, and Paulsen scored in the first half to give St. Francis a 2-0 halftime advantage.

Kohler, O’Brien and Casey Fisher were named all-tournament.

Allie Montoya and Karena Shah each scored twice and Mountain View beat Palo Alto 4-0 in the third-place contest.

Isabella Walker added an assist for the Spartans (5-0-1), who travel to Fresno for a match against Bullard on Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 2 p.m.

Palo Alto (2-4-2) next plays at Los Gatos on Wednesday, Jan. 5 in a SCVAL contest at 6 p.m.

In other tournament matches, Menlo (4-3) edged Gunn (5-1-2) 1-0, Sacred Heart Prep (3-5) fell to Burlingame 1-0 and Menlo-Atherton (4-2-1) lost to Homestead 2-0.

M-A’s Camille Melcher, Gigi Edwards and Susie Wagstaff were named all-tournament.

St. Francis also won the Junior Varsity Division I title with a 2-1 victory over St. Ignatius. Gunn beat Burlingame 1-0 to win the Junior Varsity Division 2 title.

St. Francis Kaitlyn Moore, Gianna Nurisso and Elle Simonsen and Gunn’s Audrey Kaplan, Jaz Decrem and Ally Tan were named to the JV all-tournament team.

Boys basketball

Menlo School topped Los Altos 59-53 as part of the Peninsula Basketball Invitational at Menlo-Atherton on Saturday.

Lucas Vogel scored 23 points to lead the Knights (4-1), who travel to the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic for a game against Artesia on Monday, Dec. 27.

Daniel Solomon added 17 points while Robby Enright had 10 points to go with eight rebounds.

Los Altos (6-2) was led by Andrew Reilly, who netted 18 points. Jake Skaggs recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The Eagles host Pioneer in a non-league game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

In another Invitational game, Sequoia (2-7) lost to Sacred Heart Cathedral 56-51. Sean McCormack and Trevor Sato each scored 12 points for the Ravens. Carter Palen added 10 points.

Palo Alto beat El Camino 64-48, using a 24-8 run during the second half to pull away.

The Colts drew within 39-35 with 2:13 remaining in the third quarter. Sebastian Chancellor hit a pair of free throws to spark the Paly rally. The Vikings (5-2) eventually built a 63-43 lead on two free throws from Noah Chen with 2:16 left in the game.

Lucas Black and Matt Corrigan hit key baskets during the run.

Palo Alto travels to play at Mitty on Wednesday.

Andrew McDowell scored 11 of his game-high 22 points in the first quarter and Pinewood went on to beat visiting Terra Nova 65-57 in a non-league game Saturday.

Terra Nova opened with a 10-2 run. Pinewood (5-2) responded by outscoring the Tigers (4-4) 40-16 to open a 42-26 halftime lead.

McDowell hit four of Pinewood’s eight 3-pointers and was 6-of-8 from the foul line. Pinewood went 19-of-27 overall from the foul line.

Terra Nova closed to within 63-57 with 1:21 remaining to play but Pinewood stiffened defensively to secure the victory.

Pinewood is off until opening West Bay Athletic League play at home against The King’s Academy on Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 7:15 p.m.

Girls basketball

Vallory Kuelker scored 16 points, grabbed six rebounds, recorded four steals and blocked five shots in helping Gunn down visiting Leigh 59-35 in a non-league game Saturday.

Mollie Kuelker added 12 points and six steals for the Titans (4-1), who host Valley Christian at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Violet Tivol and Zara Wang combined for another 12 points and 12 rebounds as Gunn matched its win total from the past three seasons combined.

Beverly Lamis guided the offense with seven assists and combined with Carmel Tong to score 14 points.

St. Francis beat San Benito 68-40 as part of the Presentation Shootout.

Priory fell to Sacred Heart Cathedral 47-44 despite big games from Valentina Saric and Sunishka Kartik.

Saric scored 25 points and had seven rebounds and Kartik added 16 points and nine rebounds.

Boys soccer

Alex Giannapoulos scored in the first half and St. Francis made it stand for a 1-0 victory over Los Altos as part of the Christmas Cup at Homestead on Saturday.

The Lancers (4-2) are off until West Catholic Athletic League play opens Tuesday, Jan. 4, when St. Francis travels to play Mitty.

Los Altos (1-3-2) next plays Wednesday, Jan. 5 with a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League opener at Santa Clara.

In another match, Menlo fell to University 2-0 at Beach Chalet.
