Jalen Williams made sure the Menlo-Atherton High boys basketball team ended the game the way it started: with a long scoring streak.

Williams scored nine of his game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter in helping the Bears fend off visiting Aragon 50-43 in a Peninsula Athletic League South Division contest Wednesday night.
In other PAL games, Woodside fell at home to San Mateo 41-37 and Sequoia’s game with Capuchino was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols.
M-A (8-4, 3-0) scored the game’s first 11 points before Aragon responded by eventually taking a 40-36 edge early in the fourth quarter.
Williams and Ryan Anderson, who finished with 16 points, scored all 14 points for M-A in the final period and the Bears outscored Aragon 14-3 over the final four minutes.
Williams scored six straight points to give M-A the lead for good at 44-41.
The Bears bring a four-game winning streak into Friday’s game at Woodside (3-10, 1-2).
PAL girls basketball
Angie Sugar scored 15 points and Woodside opened an early lead en route to a 48-33 victory over host San Mateo on Wednesday night.
Erika Rohlfes added nine points for the Wildcats (3-8, 1-2), who host Menlo-Atherton on Friday.
M-A (7-6, 0-2) rallied in the fourth quarter and just fell short, losing to host Aragon 49-48.
Sophomore Fiona Steinmetz led the Bears with 15 points while Summer Prescott and Venise Sanft each added eight points.
Sequoia suffered its first league loss, dropping a 56-40 decision at Capuchino, which made nine 3-pointers
Freshman Nohe’alani Stores scored 16 points for the Ravens (9-6, 2-1), who played without starter Mary Jane Hartman.
Aniyah Hall added 12 points for Sequoia, which hosts Carlmont on Friday night.
