From June 24 to July 3, traffic delays can be expected on Sand Hill Road between Portola and Whiskey Hill roads to allow for a hazardous fuels reduction project. Crews plan to remove multiple Eucalyptus trees from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to a press release.

The project is funded by grants and headed by Fire Safety SMC and the Woodside Fire Protection District. The removal of the trees is intended to increase the safety of evacuation routes and reduce potential wildfire hazards.

Eucalyptus trees will be removed along the north side of Sand Hill Road along the 3800 block of unincorporated Woodside. The trees in the area are gradually growing toward the roadway and are in close proximity of PG&E power lines. The Oak trees behind the Eucalyptus trees will remain in the area and should improve in health with the removal, according to the town of Portola Valley.

Residents are advised to subscribe to SMC Alert, the San Mateo County emergency alert system and Genasys Project, the county’s evacuation alerting system. Questions can be directed to Fire Safe Executive Director Denise Enea at DEnea@woodsidefire.org
