Drivers will face delays this week as Caltrans does striping work on Highway 84 as part of a micro-resurfacing project between La Honda and Woodside roads, part of work to improve safety on the treacherous two-lane mountain route.

Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 28-30. Drivers can expect one-way traffic control during construction hours. Temporary pavement markings between Foxhill Road and Memory Lane will be replaced with permanent pavement striping, according to Caltrans.

Striping operations will be completed in stages as crew work down the corridor, said Woodside officials in a town alert. Sections of traffic control are expected to move as areas of striping are completed in segments.

This work is one of Caltrans commitments to immediate improvements being made to increase safety on Highways 84 and 35. Other promises include a road safety audit, vegetation management, replacement of traffic signs and maintenance of turnouts.

Caltrans officials presented their near-term and long-term improvement plans during a town hall hosted by local and state legislators on Oct. 20 at Mountain Terrace to address the increase in collisions, fatalities and reckless driving that occur on the winding roadways.

According to the California Highway Patrol, there have been 11 fatal collisions on Highways 84 and 35 over the past five years. This includes the death of cyclists Jakub Solovsky in July and Eric Biron in August 2025, who were both hit by cars.

During construction, Caltrans advises the public to drive with caution. For real-time traffic updates visit quickmap.dot.ca.gov.
