The funky striped metal patio umbrellas are gone. The windows are taped. After 30 years in Menlo Park, Arby’s restaurant, specializing in roast beef sandwiches, closed May 7.

A sign in the window says the nationwide chain, which boasts 3,500 restaurants, lost its lease and is “working hard to find a new Mid Peninsula location.”

The Arby’s property at 760 El Camino Real is owned by the Crumrine family, owners of the adjoining Cook’s Seafood Restaurant and Market. Cook’s Seafood has been a Menlo Park institution since 1928.

The Crumrine family is looking at potential future uses for the property and considering “a lot of things,” according to Mike Crumrine, son of owner Roy Crumrine. “We’re going to take our time.”

Meanwhile, if you have any ideas for a new location, the folks at Arby’s corporate headquarters asks you to give them a call at 415-457-066. Its sign promises, “We’ll be back!”
