The 136 members of Menlo School’s Class of 2009 received their diplomas June 9 in an outdoor ceremony that included welcoming remarks from Director of Upper School John Schafer.
This year’s commencement speakers were Menlo parent Dr. Roger Kornberg and faculty member Michael Thibodeaux. Dr. Kornberg is a 2006 Nobel Prize recipient in chemistry and father of graduating senior Maya Kornberg.
Mr. Thibodeaux is a longtime mathematics faculty member whose son Lawrence is also graduating.
Senior Class President Patrick Renschler of Redwood City also offered his thoughts on graduation. Menlo School’s Chorus and Chamber Orchestra provided the music.
Menlo School Board Chair Stu Francis assisted John Schafer and Head of School Norman Colb in conferring high school degrees upon the members of the Class of 2009.
Established in 1915, Menlo School, based in Atherton, enrolls 750 students from around the Bay Area in grades 6 through 12.
