Over 2,600 Portola Valley and West Menlo Park residents experienced a power outage on Thursday evening due to an unknown cause. Separately, Woodside residents also lost power after a third-party vehicle struck a power pole, according to PG&E spokesperson Tamar Sarkissian.
In Woodside, 65 residents were affected at the peak of the outage and all but 12 residents had their power restored by 8:49 p.m. PG&E estimates that power will be restored to the remaining households by this afternoon.
“PG&E arrived on the scene and worked safely through the night to replace the damaged pole. We are currently working to replace the wire, however there are accessibility issues due to difficult terrain,” Sarkissian added.
Portola Valley and West Menlo Park residents said they experienced an outage around 9:30 p.m. and did not have power restored until 12:30 a.m. or later. Customers in the neighborhoods of Westridge, Los Trancos, Stanford Hills and Portola Valley Ranch were impacted, according to community comments on PV Forum, the town’s private social media platform.
PG&E officials confirmed that around midnight, the majority of customers had power restored, but as of 12:30 p.m., 43 customers still remain without power. The cause of the outage is still under investigation, but PG&E is currently working on repairs to restore electricity to impacted residents.
These were two unrelated outages, clarified Sarkissian.
