A 42-year-old man on probation for stolen vehicle offenses was arrested Thursday morning after fleeing police in a stolen car and attempting to escape on a bicycle, authorities said.
The Menlo Park Police Department said San Bruno police notified them around 9:15 a.m. that a stolen vehicle was heading toward the city, tracked by automatic license plate readers.
Officers said they attempted a traffic stop. However, the driver ran into a residential neighborhood and stole a bicycle to flee.
The man was detained with the help of community members who pointed officers in his direction, police said. He was booked into county jail on suspicions of possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest.
The vehicle was returned undamaged to its owner, police said.
