For the past year, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office has been working with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to reduce underage drinking and promote alcohol awareness education.
After receiving a $75,000 grant awarded by the ABC, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office and ABC personnel inspected 71 businesses in San Mateo County, according to a July 27 press release.
During the grant period, deputies issued 19 citations and held 11 community education sessions on the dangers of underage drinking and driving under the influence.
They also conducted 12 specialized operations at licensed retail businesses throughout San Mateo County to identify adults who furnished alcohol to minors and address violations before they led to larger public safety issues, the Sheriff’s Office said in the press release.
The Sheriff’s Office announced plans to reapply for the grant.
