The Stanford Blood Center is celebrating National Blood Donor Month this January by giving donors Stanford Blood Center/Warriors sweatshirt. Additionally, the blood center is partnering with the San Jose Sharks for a special “Save a Life” blood drive on Saturday, Jan. 11, giving donors the chance to win Sharks-themed prizes.

The holiday season often brings a significant dip in blood donations due to travel, seasonal illnesses, and busy schedules, which makes January an especially critical time to replenish the blood supply, according to a press release from the blood center.

“With the new year comes an opportunity to reflect on what truly matters, and blood donation is an incredible way to support your community,” said Harpreet Sandhu, CEO of Stanford Blood Center, in a prepared statement. “We encourage everyone to consider making blood donation a regular part of their routine or even part of their New Year’s resolution. Every donation has the power to save lives and make a meaningful difference.”

Appointments can be made online at stanfordbloodcenter.org, via the SBC app, or by calling 888-723-7831 or texting to 999-777. Walk-ins are welcome.

Donors should be in good health with no cold, flu, or COVID-19 symptoms. Donors must be at least 17 years of age (or 16 with a parent or guardian’s consent). Eligibility information can be found at stanfordbloodcenter.org/eligibility or by calling 888-723-7831.

The “Save a Life” blood drive takes place from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at SAP Center in San Jose, North Concourse Entrance, 525 W. Santa Clara St.
