A new court executive officer has been selected for the San Mateo County Superior Court, according to court officials.

Chad Peace, who currently is serving as director of Justice Court services for Harris County in Texas, will succeed Neal Taniguchi who has served as San Mateo’s court executive officer for the last six years, court officials said Friday.

Peace has been the director of Justice Court services for Harris County since 2022, developing and monitoring justice court operational budgets and justice court performance standards, court officials said.

Peace previously served as the director of court administration for Montgomery County, Texas beginning in 2019, and the director of court development for the Kansas Supreme Court in 2018.

“We welcome Chad Peace as our next court executive officer,” said Presiding Judge-Elect Stephanie Garratt. “Being a judge, lawyer, and administrator, Chad is uniquely qualified to help us navigate through challenging times ahead.”

Court executive officers are responsible for the day-to-day operations of a court, including managing personnel, implementing policies, and overseeing non-judicial operations

Peace will take over as court executive officer for San Mateo County Superior Court in February 2025.
